Payton has had a much better career, as he's an all time top 10 PG.
However, at this stage in their careers, Cassell is a far better player as he is still capable of carrying a team. Payton has been a shell of his former self the last 3 years.

Ohhh Payton in hes prime is top 50 greatest of all time hall of famer 3 time finals appearances. would of won a ring if he wusnt against michael jordan. The team revolved around payton he wus the franchise player and constant all star. One of the games greats. constant 25 point 8 assist 6 rebound type player. Sam cassell has never been anything but a role player. Payton by far at hes prime cassel has been able to conserve himself better. so rite now cassel, hes still able to produce decent numbers.

Gary Payton is a hall of famer...but he is pretty old and has lost much of his speed and skill. Cassel somehow still manages to have his game, but yet he can't play enough minutes. Cassel however is better in terms of skill right now.

Right now Sam Cassell, no doubt about it. If you look at the careers as a whole it's GP. Take a look at the stats they don't lie.

at this present moment, Cassell. i am a Payton loyalist, but his time has passed, and i am glad to see he got his ring.
