they creep across my desk. They are tiny, light brown in color and crunch when I smoosh them

eww, no not the dredded potato bug. Those are suppose to be big. These little pest are the size of crumbs

potato bugs, I think. They are super annoying, call an exterminator! Good thing they're not in your bedroom, those things love to cuddle up with you under the blankets.
I could tell you horror storries about them that you wouldn't believe!

They are Western Light Brown Crunchy Bugs. Be careful they're highly poisonous, and they will eat your face off and steal your credit card number.

Not enough description to tell for sure. However,
it is likely that they are an introduced species of
ladybug which has become very common in the
U.S. and often becomes a nuisance in houses.
