It sure makes life easier. Getting in and out of bed after having your stomach muscles cut is NOT a pleasant thing. Keeping that catheter in for 12 hours or so until you get your bearings back is a VERY good thing indeed.

Yes. The bladder sits right under the uterus and it is very important that the bladder is empty when they are doing surgery. You do not want your bladder to get cut or knicked during the surgery. The anesthesiologist is giving you IV fluids all during the surgery and this goes out through your bladder, so the catheter has to be there to keep the bladder empty. After your C-Section, it keeps your bladder empty so your uterus will stay clamped down so you down bleed too much. Once you are able to start getting up, the nurse will remove the catheter and let you start urinating on your own. Hope this helps.

It is not a must have but it sure does help.
By inserting a urinary catheter, the bladder is empty and that make the c section much easier to do because the bladder is not blocking the lower segment of the uterus where we do the incision to deliver the baby.
It also helps you post operatively because you do not have to get up to pass urine.
The 3rd advantage is this : occasionally a mother may not be able to pass urine on her own due to various reasons and this may cause over stretching of the bladder wall

I have had 2 C sections a long time ago now but both times I had a catheter inserted. I think you would have to have one in to drain your bladder because it sits really close you where they cut and if your bladder is full they could accidently cut it so it needs to be empty. Ask your doctor for the 100% sure answer. Good luck.

yes, because of the pressure on your bladder when they go to remove the baby you get a enema before and then you are prepped
for the c-section with i.v. and a catheter . you don`t pass the after birth they suction it out.

Yes, it is a must. During C Section anesthesia will be given to you.As a result, your urinary bladder (the organ where your urine is temporarily stored), is relaxed because of that you will have no control over your bladder. so, to prevent accidental leaking, you have to have a urinary cathether inserted on your urethra, otherwise you will smell like a bat.

Yes. Only on the first day. On the following day they take it out so that you can get back on your feet. Just make sure that you get plenty of help with the baby when you go back home because it is painful.

I am sure you do unless maybe an emergency one where they just have to cut you open (RARE).
Cath is not great but not the end of the world. When you have it taken out though, be careful you could pee on yourself easily. You lose sensation and can't feel very well.

yes you do. if you think about it would you want to pee in a bag or pee in your bed. you have no control over your body functions because they either do a spinal block or an epideral. both of which numb you from the waist down.
