If i'm wearing socks I first check the pair (no holes, match) then do 1 sock then 1 shoe, repeat. This is from long habit of living in a warehouse that didn't always have clean and or dry floors...

Archie Bunker found out that Mike put on one sock and then one shoe; of course, Archie called him crazy. Then Mike said " if the house caught on fire and we had to go outside in bad weather, at least he could stay dry by standing there with one sock and one shoe on, while Archie would get wet with his two socks on. I'm a sock sock, shoe shoe.
