Cuz we are one of the only few species that mate for life. Or are supposed to! Not a bible thing, just a fact.
Whether we choose to stay together is a different story...
Too east to get divorced these days...

we stay together because we need each other like what adam had realized when he noticed the animals having a mate so God decided to create a woman for the man.
man and woman stay together because God take a rib bone of a man and created a woman so a woman is a part of a man.
they cannot be separated

I would assume it is because they love each other...although, I must admit this isn't always the reason. Sometimes it is because of a sense of loyalty, or it is so costly to get divorced (splitting the property up, etc.) or for the children, or for additional economic reasons. Not very romantic is it? In the days of my great-grandfather, they stayed married because divorce wasn't an option. We live in a disposable society that seems to include relationships. I find this very sad. We can always hope someone stays for the right reasons...and doesn't leave for the same reasons...but it isn't always the case.
People are living longer, there are more options, sometimes the relationship is abusive, etc. We are biologically and spiritually designed to find our other half and mate for a life-time. Men are biologically challenged because they are programmed to desire more than one woman during a life-time...but it doesn't always mean he wants to leave his wife. I guess it comes down to if the couple truly love each other...then they will weather all storms.

Staying together and marrying are two different things. If you just stay together, you do it because you want to or one is using the other. If you are married and stay together, it is because of commitment, morals, love, convenience, children, fiances, comfort, need and many more reasons, of which some are not a good thing.

I have stayed with my husband for 13 years because every year I find our love has grown deeper. He is a part of me that I am not willing to walk away from.
Why he stays with me? He doesn't have to do his own laundry!

Because they are not equal and they are not self sufficient.
There are things that a man needs from a woman and there are things that a woman needs from man.
What those things are depend from person to person.

don't know about you but I need a woman for survival I need someone to stay with me so I can hold her and take care of her and if she has kids I will treat them as if they were my own.causse too many guys hit and quit it.
