Because Karl Rove, although slipping lately, realizes that Republicans are in a great deal of trouble right now. They don't want to focus on the actual issues facing this nation such as immigration policy, the rising cost of fuel spurred by our continued dependence on foreign energy sources, the Iraq quagmire, our failing foreign policy, the rising federal deficit, souring health care premiums, the corporatist agenda rampant in Congress, and the horrid corruption in their own party..(one Republican after the other is getting indicted with no end in sight)..because if they were to focus on these issues...the blame would be placed squarely on their own shoulders. They have no one to blame but themselves. This lack of a scapegoat is the curse of being the only party in power. They control the executive, legislative, and, arguably, even the judiciary. Of course, taking the blame would require humility, integrity, and honesty (which they clearly do not have)....so what do they do instead? They focus on flag burning, the estate tax and gay marriage; three issues that they know will rouse their loyal base: the ultra-rich and the ultra-fundamentalist Christian. Yes America...while you are concerned with gas prices and our soldiers dying in Iraq...your Republican party is introducing bills to ban gay marriage, repeal the estate tax, and prevent flag burning. Talk about being out of touch with mainstream America.

If I very own the flag, it would be mine to do with as a wish. If that incorporates desecration, so be it. Now the different a million/2 of that equation is this: i like this united states and what it stands for, and all people who descrates the flag in an attempt to make a political 'assertion' on the instant loses my help/interest, whether their reason have been astounding. we would desire to offer up puzzling the emblem with the element it stands for.

Diversion, plain & simple. It takes the heat off the GOP for all their problems--NAS spying, no WMD, Katrina, secret prisions, immigration, deficit spending, etc. Free speech is important and I guess they'll continue ti bring it up until we have 18 Ammendments to the Bill of Rights like we do to the Constitution.

Thousands of issues are addressed each year. Time is worked in for everything weeks or months ahead of time.
If you're not sure how Congress works, perhaps you should read up on that first before asking. They don't simply bend to the issues being shown on CNN...

because the cock-sucking, granola-eating, treehugging democrats are burning and destroying flags from their own country!
if they dont like it in the US, then move to france!
just let me know if you dont like it, i will buy you a one way ticket to france or canada, your choice!
but there is no reason to destroy the flag that represents all the men and woman who have ever fought and/or died for this country!
all those idiot traders who think the united states government should focus on "other problems" should try to stop the, burning of flags for instance, then there would be no need for amendments such as these!

If people burn the flag, the Bush's gang won't be able to drape themselves in it to defend their ideal society based on war.
And yes I agree, what a lame debate to overlook more important issues.

That's like asking "Why did the police give me a speeding ticket when there are murderers loose?"
It's silly. All business must stop if it doesn't meet your criteria, regardless of what side of the political aisle it comes from.
Put some thought into your questions, please, if you intend to make a political point with them.

They're going on vacation soon. They don't want to deal with any substantive issues until they get back from recess.
