Why doesn't it just die right side up?

Cockroaches will die upside down with their legs curled up if they die slowly. This means natural causes, slow-acting poisons or shock. They will die in other positions if they die very quickly - like from a very fast-acting nerve toxin or if killed by another creature.

Cockroaches walk and run by the coordinated action of the three sets of legs. The hind legs are dedicated to pushing. They have a limited range of movement and carry the least amount of body weight. Hind legs have large tarsal pads. The middle legs are the fulcrum of the body. They don't move much back and forth and have moderate-sized tarsal pads. The front legs are where the action is. When they die slowly, they are propelled onto their backs.

dude its not that when cockroaches die they go upside down. they die cuz they are upside down. Have u ever heard that the one and may be the only animal that can survive after a nuclear attack is cockroach. so if u wanna kill them just smack them but if u want them to die in vain..then just turn them on there back they will try their hardest to get up but wont suceed and eventually they will die of starvation or simply be eaten alive by ants. I hope that answers ur question,

there is some die right side up but most of them suffered before they die so they stumble then when on their back they dint have enough power left to flip over.
