why is it when your in a public bathroom , say , at a restaurant, and the door doesn't lock , someone always seems to open it and says " I'm sorry " and the response seems to be "that's okay" , when it really isn't?

I never say that's OK. People can look under the stall. I heard a stupid mom tell her little girl not to look under the stalls to check for people to just try to open the door and if it is unlocked she could go in. How stupid, I hardly ever find a well equipped bathroom with locks on the doors. I feel like throwing something at people when they open it on me. I hate public bathrooms.

Human nature. As humans we develop habits and patches in our mind that when commonly used become a part of our lives. With any drama that goes on in our life [you know what I'm saying] we simply resort to the easiest way out of the bad situation. Something like "it's OK" allows our subconscious to repair the feeling of embarrassment to both the person walking in and the person on the can. Other ways of "repairing" our mind is through laughter. It's a cold winter day and from behind you comes a water balloon, simply laughing at the fact you look as if you have peed your pants and joining in the game is more soothing than standing abashed that such a thing could have happened.

So you never make mistakes? This happens to everyone at one time or another. Just wait until you have to take your two-three year old kid into the stall with you and they feel they just HAVE to peek under to the stall next to you, just as embarrassing! Would you rather the person call you a swear name and go off and have a possible fight on hand or would you rather you both forgive, get over it and move on? Chances are neither one of you will remember the instance in less than an hour anyways!

They were courteous enough to say I'm sorry...so your response is also a courteous one. I never say it's ok...I usually say "HEY"...lol
