some of my scripts actually worked but not the scripts for the validation of the page that is triggered by a onSubmit javascript handler

See the link below for some discussion of this issue. Without seeing your code, I don't know whether it fits your situation exactly.

The questioner there was also using an onSubmit attribute to invoke a validation routine. According to the response on that page, an onClick expression can produce the result you want.

It might be that you haven't "tweaked" Firefox yet. By this I mean that you need to Enable Java in order for your scripts to work. To find out more on tweaking your Firefox, here's an interesting place to start: http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_1.html

could it be because ie lives in its own world of pseudo standards?

i am also having mozzilla...just remove ie. completely from ur pc...
