to be more specific a foley person finds alternative ways to replicate different sounds. ie snapping celery to make it sound like a bone is being broken, hitting a bag full of sand to make it sound like a thud or walking on cereal in a box to make it sound like your walking on gravel or in dry brush. It's actually pretty cool and takes a lot of imagination

A foley operator is basically a sound editor. Foley is used to put in all those cool sound effects that make a movie so good.

Movie Sound Techie. They record and edit sounds for movies. Ever see the movie Blowout. John Travolta's character in that was a Foley artist

foley is the sound effects. they emphasize the sounds you expect to hear like foot steps and wind blowing, things that are too soft to be picked up initially.
