There is always the chance that people simply do not have the time to sit down and thoughtfully compose an answer. Perhaps some of them are simply answering for points. After all, the use of generic answers seems to be to answer quickly, thus gaining one an easy two points.
You may find that if your question is specific and well-written that you will get a better range of responses. The more thought you put into it, the better your chances are of finding others willing to put time and effort into it. Yahoo! answers is not going to provide the thoroughness that you want if you are seeking an in-depth answer.
A spell-checked, polite question is the difference between barging into a library and screaming "I wanna learn stuff good!" and doffing your hat to the librarian and asking nicely for help. Each will get you a response, but in the former case, perhaps not the one you want.

Well you are asking a very generic question... you can only expcet a generic answer. The only actual question you ask is "what... up???" How much more generic can you get? All I can say for sure is something. Ask more specific questions, and you'll get more specific answers. As far as making an attempt at a less generic response, here are some wise words written by Stephen Stills.... it sort of answers "what... up???"
Buffalo Springfield : "For What It's Worth" (S. Stills)
There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

I always get weird answers. The only time i get serious answers is when i am in the religion section. I alway get bozos who tell me to die or something though. Sometimes I get what I want and am happy with the resaults.

and what is the question exactly? why the generic answers? people answering for points not helpfullness. small minds can not process bigger thoughts. sheer boredom. lack of anything better to say. take your pick...

so...whats your question. maybe you're the problem - maybe you get bad answers because, in reality, you dont actually ask a question. yep, i think thats what it is.

You should have repeated the question so one could tell if he/she was guilty as charged.
