In my house, we always play Monopoly with a couple rules that are not on the Rules listed for the game. I was wondering if anyone else played with these same rules.
1. When you pay Luxury or Income Tax, the money is paid to the center of the board, which we call the Free Parking Pile. Then, if you land on Free Parking, you get to take the money that's there. Woot!
2. Yes, when you pass Go, you collect $200, but if you LAND on Go, you collect $400.
Does anyone else play with these rules? If not, I wonder where, when, and why we ever started to. Haha. I like them though. : D

I know that Free Parking isn't MEANT to have a money bonus, but it's fun that way. I also know that on a computer you can add in the rules. I was just wondering, that's all. Everyone else except my family that I play with never plays that way.

we play by the same rules, but we also put any money from chance or community chest there if it is not specifically designated. Oh yeah, we also make it so that there is always at least $500 in the "kitty" (free parking fund)

Yep, we played with the same rules. Only difference is that we would put a $500 bill on the center in the beginning of the game, and every time someone landed on Free Parking, they would get all the Free Parking pile plus the $500. Then we would put another $500 bill in the center. That way you would ALWAYS get something if you land on Free Parking.
Oh, and also any payment that was not for the bank, would also go to the free parking pile. Like if you had to pay income tax or something else from the cards.

I would check the rules one more time because I always played that if you landed on go you got $400 & I do believe that is in the rules. Don't know about the other part being in the rules, but I played that way too.

We always play with the Free Parking rule and rarely play with the Go rule.
These rules make the game last longer, and can sometimes turn it around for a losing player. And everyone loves a nice long game of Monopoly. ;-)

We always had all the fines from Chance and Community Chest go into the center with the taxes and you got it all if you landed on Free Parking. That was the way my dad taught us to play and it was only years later that I ever saw the actual rules and found out it wasn't the "right" way to play.

The "Free Parking Rule" is half the reason people complain about Monopoly taking so long. It introduces more money into a game where the goal is to bankrupt the other players. More money means it's going to take longer for players to go bankrupt.
There's a reason it's called "free parking" and not "you get $500 to park here!".

Yep we play that way too, we start with $500 in the middle and any community chests, chance and when you land on taxes or the $75 dollar spot, we also play the $400 for landing on go. This is just too funny that a bunch of people play this way. Because your right I have never read them in the rules.

Yes, I also play by those rules. We also put $500 in the center of the board before the game starts.

I always did, except it was $500 for landing on Go, not $400. Also, anything you paid to the bank for Chance or Community Chest went to the center.
