I pick the most thought provoking. I will often ignore the ones that are just parroting what I have said. Someone must bring in a different tilt on the subject, something I missed, or explain things well for me to give them the 10 points.

I pick the best answer based on how well the person answers my question and yes, if the question is thought provoking that certainly helps.
I love it when someone genuinely puts a lot of thought into their answer. There are some truly helpful people out there and I love hearing from them on Yahoo Answers!

You pick answers as to which you believe is the best. If the thought provoking one is what you like best, pick that. It is entirely up to you.

I try to pick the thought provoking ones, but I think that a large sum of people pick the one that's closest to their own opinion.

depends on the question.
For my own questions I always pick the most helpful answer. When I vote on other questions, I typically vote because it's the correct answer, or because it contains a lot of valuable information. I also try to assess how much the answerer knows about the topic. Often if they provide a lot of detail it gives me more confidence.
Sometimes I vote for an answer though if it is really funny

It depends, sometimes I don't hear anything I wanted. But most of the time it is because they are thought provoking. If I wanted to hear something I already knew I would of just asked myself.

Really, it depends on the question. Sometimes I pick what reflects what I believe. Sometimes I find that a responce is better then any that I could give. Sometimes I just pick a very creative answer! Usually then though it is on questions that have a less serious nature.

it depends on the question.
if it's an opinion question than it can be either. if it's advice, then I pick the most thought provoking one, even if it's not what I want to hear.

I pick the one that either best answers the questions, or the ones that are just plain stupid and funny. Maybe both. Depends on the question I am asking.

I choose the answer that provides the best information or most workable solution to my problem. If two answers are similar, I'll go with the one that's written the most clearly. Of course, I ask questions seeking information, not opinions. I don't understand people who ask opinion questions, but I'm happy to answer them for a couple of points.
