In one scene, Lex Luthor leaves a bad guy to watch Lois Lane and her kid. As he's staring at them, she tells the kid to go play the piano. The bad guy follows him and starts playing the piano!?

Scenes like that were pretty funny, but were done too often. It had a negative impact on the movie, like the whole project wasn't taken seriously.
The whole dog scene at the beginning was pretty funny though. If you watched it, you know what I'm talking about.

Well, Singer did throw humor into the first two X-Men movies too...It breaks up the tension...believe me, I chewed my fingernails during Superman Returns...
I don't think it was negative at all...We all find the humor in life at some point even in dire, or sad situations. Why should our entertainment be any different?

Im not going to see that. I know superman is invincable but it looks just stupid when they shoot him in the eye and the bullet explodes.
