Midwest: Notre Dame, Marquette

The better Catholic universities do not push the Catholic agenda in their classes -- but treat the field as an academic area.

Someone has already mentioned that many state schools have good religious studies departments.

Most Bible colleges aren't particularly good academically, and tend to push their own religious agenda rather than look at the field in a scholarly way.

Don't rule out state Universities. Their religion programs are quite good and well rounded. If you plan to get a job in this later you will limit yourself by going to a small private religious based school. Doing well at the state university will insure that wherever you go, you'll be taken seriously. Make sure the university has chapel services, in addition to a solid program.
