First of all, most anime has a fairly short run - more than a season is unusual. Second, there's a time lag because they need to translate it into English. Third, they need to work out the contracts to distribute it in the US. It's a pretty complicated process, and it takes time to do all of that.
I think my favorite all-time series is Rurouni Kenshin. Humor, action, romance and history all rolled up into one show.

Bah! A lot of the newer anime sucks! If you want the classic stuff, get a hold of Akira, Bubblegum Crisis, Vampire Hunter D, Mermaid Scar, 3x3 Eyes, Ranma 1/2 or stuff like that. About the only newer anime I like is Cowboy Bebop and it's not that new anymore.
The only place to see anime regularly as far as I know is Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. I miss having cable. :-(

This is what I am or will be watching over the next few weeks/months...
Ergo Proxy...measured...paced...science fiction
In a world where humans and androids, known as autoreivs, live in relative peace, there exists a domed city named "Romdeau".
Real Mayar, a female inspector from the Citizen Information Bureau, along with her autoreiv partner Iggy, are tasked to solve the murder cases, learns about the mysterious phenomena called "Awakening", an event which draws her further into the case...and to the world beyond the limits of Romdeau. I have watched three episodes so far...and I like where the story is going...26 episodes I believe...
Monster
When a Doctor makes the highly controversial decision to save a boy's life over the mayor's, it leads to the loss of almost everything he holds dear. His fiance, his career, his social standing. The only thing he keeps is his own feeling of self worth, knowing that he did the right thing in saving the boy, who came in first. Yet even that is threatened when he begins to learn that nothing is as it originally appeared.
superb...74 episodes.
Hundred stories
Momosuke is a young man with a dream: to travel Japan and collect one hundred stories. He journeys from place to place, searching for tales of the paranormal and bizarre, hoping to collect tales to publish in his book....have watched six episodes so far. The beginning sequence is smoking...and setas the tone for the stories beautifully. Very well done...and its horror alright...13 episodes
Eureka 7...
Renton Thurston is a 14-year-old boy who lived with his mechanic grandfather in a backwater town. Every day he dreamed of being with the mercenary "Light Finding Operation (LFO)" aircraft pilot group "Gekkostate" and riding "Trapar" particle waves-- a sport called "reffing"-- with their charismatic leader Holland, especially when faced with his father's acclaimed past or his grandfather's desire to protect him. When a young girl named Eureka riding the original LFO, the "Nirvash typeZERO", asks his grandfather for a tune-up, she inadvertently brings the attention of the military to the garage; as a result, the garage is destroyed and Renton is forced to deliver a new type of interface-- the "Amita Drive"-- to the Nirvash. After a heated fight in which the Nirvash destroys the military LFOs by unleashing an immense amount of power, Renton is invited into Gekkostate. However, he quickly realizes that behind the facade of a traveling group of mercenaries is a very bitter reality.
I like it so far...watched the first 26 episodes...very good stuff...there are 50 episodes...
Fantastic Children
is a fantasy/sci-fi adventure anime by noted animator Takashi Nakamura. It concerns a young, energetic boy named Tohma who encounters a group of mysterious, white-haired children . These children do not seem to age and have spent several centuries wandering the cities of Europe. Tohma encounters them in the year 2012, and is drawn into their conflict.
haven't seen it yet...
...First episode looks promising but have not seen enough of it yet to give opinion....but will get to it...26 episodes

Well. samurai Champloo moved on its Adult Swim block to 1 am on Saturdays. There are other samurai-based anime like Ruroni Kenshin and Ninja Scroll.

could just be bad timing on your part. most animes will be played over and over for months on end, but other times it's just based on popularity or the people who are broadcasting it. if you have anime network you might get your favorite shows more often but that, i don't know the answer to that 'cuz i don't have said network. hope that gives you a little help.
