Ever since the Europeans established the dominant culture in North America, it has never been acceptable for young, unwed females to have out-or-wedlock children.
Because much of society has come to tolerate the phenomenon doesn't mean that the practice is accepted as part of the cultural ethos.
Sociologists try to track this trend (among hundreds of other trends) in a nonjudgmental way. Presently about one of every three children in the U.S. is born out-of-wedlock. It seems that America is simply following European trends. Fully half of all children in Iceland are born out-of-wedlock.
However, these data do not indicate that out-of-wedlock births will all result in children growing up in single-parent families.
Also, many out-of-wedlock births are due to a decline in early marriage. In some countries, like France, the economic penalties for getting divorced while the parent of a dependent child are so harsh that people, especially men, have become gunshy of marital bonds.
Personally, I think that society became more tolerant of out-of-welock births for at least two reasons. (1) The cultural revolution of the 1960's has had a powerful effect on nearly every phase of our culture. (2) Out-of-wedlock births to celebrities, originally called "love children," exposed the population to a cohort of "bastards" that are growing up in affluent homes, receiving excellent educations, and often have two adults in the home -- though they may not be married -- for nurturance.

It's not socially excepted, but it's something that can't be stop, meaning child birth whether your wed or unwed. And it's not only the females problem that they have a child, don't forget about the sperm that help get it started.

The transition occurred during the "sexual revolution" and the emergence of "civil rights" and "women's rights."

Somehow, women successfully claimed the right to force taxpayers to pick up the tab for the decisions they make. That also became the foundation for "domestic violence" laws that are equally financed by taxpayers.

Women seem to think they can have superior rights with no responsibilities at all.

Do not worry about that, or related issue, rather make it the way taxes be very easy for you to pay and even contribute more, because that may just happen.

When Jerry Springer started showing the world how commonly this occurs. People have gotten used to seeing this, and now it has become a viable career option for certain stupid girls.

Hip-hop had a lot to do with it, too. Duh.
