For some reason I have this vision of sponges running little steam shovels and filling in the oceanic rifts. First, sponges do not absorb water normally although the sponge skeletons do after being dried out and then only if you have the right type of sponge. So no they do not.

I would say no, because the sea is so deep and so wide and long, it would be negligible if at all.

of course it would...sponges hold water, take the sponges out and the depth of the sea will increase. haha is that a form of global warming i wonder???
