that is an extremely interesting question!! I'd love to know how old you are. anyways, i know that sounds really retarded to call 911 or ask for help if the person actually wants to die, right? why bother? but most of the time the person is hurting so much that they believe that is the only way out. what they don't realize is that there is a way to stop the pain without ending their life. plus if they have tryed suicide, most people find they really don't want to die. so if you are dealing with someone who is suicidal get them help and let them know you will be there for them. nothing like a true friend!!!

Well, when you attempt suicide you're not thinking in a proper frame of mind. At the time, you think that nothing will get better and you don't realize that there are people out there willing to help you deal with these issues. That's why they aer saved so that they will be given a chance to think about life with a clear mind.

To all of those who have said that a suicidal person is not in his/her right state of mind at the time....THANK YOU. As someone with personal experience of being the one who wanted to end it all.....I can say that is true. In your mind you lose all hope and see nothing in the future changing for the better. You don't realize what the positive possibilities of living are at that point. I think people try to save people out of compassion and if you don't have that in your heart.....I pity you.
just an opinion

coming from someone who has seen it close hand, its just something you do for the person taking their life...because for that split second where they make the dumb decision to end it all they forget what they leave behind, who loves them how it would tear them up with no explanation....and if and hopefully they survive they start seeing (with help) that there is so much love and life to cherish that in the end saving that person not only heals them but saves the people that love them from alot of heartache.....

because, people who call 911 are really looking for help so they don't kill themselves. They realize that they are ill, and need some human contact.

if they are calling 911, then they do not really want to die. if they really wanted to die, no one would know about it until the body was found.
so, if they truly dont want to die, they are looking for help out of a deserate situation and as a member of the human race we are obligated to help.

Depends: are you a regular person or an EMT (or paramedic)? Because if your are a EMT (or paramedic), then I believe that you are obligated to help someone. But if you are a regular person, then that depends on what you believe.
