Usually those movies were made in the Studio era, with better Directing, Producing, etc, and they had great writers, scriptwriters, and actors who could act. And all those great character actors, who could do it all.
When you think of all those great ones, and compare them to what we have today, there is no comparison.
So for the most part, they just don't stand up against the original.
Lets face it, original is always better, who wants copies. Would you pay millions for a copy of the Mona Lisa, even if were really done well.
Sure there are artists today, who can copy great masters, but it's not original, and that's what counts.
You can't beat originality.

While I agree that remakes of movies aren't as "magical" as their originals, movies like the Dr. Dolittle movies are very different in the execution. Take the Rex Harrison version and compare it to the Eddie Murphy version and they are two very different movies with the same theme.
Read a book called "Save the Cat". It's a great book on screen writing - I think you'd really like it.

People have such fond memories of the original version that their expectations are too high. Also, the material in the remake usually isn't original. You, of course, get the sense that you have already seen it.

Depends on the movie refered to...some remakes shouldn't have been made because the original sucked anyway (The Omen, anyone?)

Because the some of the ideas & plots of the older films were only relevant back then. Sometimes you can't sell the same idea twice. Plus I also think that Hollywood is running out of ideas & has lost some of their creative ability.

Because everythings already been done. There's nothing else to do but redo. By the way that reminds me, Benson starts in 15 minutes.

because they are copies. the heart and passion is not put into them. there was no figuring out how to do anything, because it's just a copy..all the little quirks that make films good had already been figured out and replicated. it's really quite depressing.

you already know what is going to happen, and in the new movie, they have to try to do things to out do the original, and it usually takes away from the overall picture.
