Brazil has qualified for all the World Cup Finals untill 2006. That makes it 18 times Brazil has participated in a World Cup Tournament.
They have WON it as many as FIVE times and are currently the World Champions.

Actually, 3 times they won the Jules Rimet thropy (1958, 1962, 1970) but didn't "own it" because they just hold it when they won the world soccer cup. But in 1970 they keep it for good (well, somebody stollen it from Brazil's soccer league office) because the original rule of the first team that won 3 championships will keep it forever.
Also they won two more times (1994 and 2002) the current FIFA's World Cup, but they don't own the cup, just hold for the
championship.
There is a great chance that they will holding again this World Cup 2006.

I would say 5, however Brazil appeared in a record 17 world cup finals between 1930 and 2002.

they had won 5 times since 1930 1st world cup , in 1958,1962,1970, 1994 and 2002.
In 1970, since that is the 3rd time for them they has the right to keep the tropy for good as it states in the rule that whoever won 3 WC has the right to keep it. It can happen again this year also.
