Yeah babies do start talking in baby language around 4-5 months. Cooing they start even earlier. My girl started around 4 months. She's 10 months now and she talks and talks back in her own language :) Its a joy to see that!

On average, a baby says her first word at 9-15 months old. Once they are saying one word, they will quickly learn more. You will see a lot of parents who claim that their baby said her/his first word at 5 or 6 months...but then didn't say another one for many *more* months (until age 10-15 months). This is an indication that the baby *wasn't* really saying a first word at all. It was just babbling. A child who *did* start talking at 6 months old would have a 250 word vocabulary by 18 months old; how often have you heard of that?!
Some babies will say a first work earlier or later than other babies, but usually all are within the range of *normal*. But it is nearly impossible for a baby to say her first word before about 8 1/2 months old.

By age 2 1/2, the average child has a vocabulary of about 600 words, by age 5 or 6 that number rises to about 15,000 words, an increase of 10 words a day. By 3 years of age, most children have all the basic tools needed to form sentences and make conversation. Most 18 to 20 month olds will use 1 and 2 word sentences. By 24 months, the longest sentences include 4 and 5 words. By 30 months, sentence length will double again.
Babies can start saying words at one year of age. When my child was 1, she could say ball, mama, dada and baby. I had to video it because It was so cute.

First words, like “mama”, “dada”, “papa”, “bye-bye”, and the association with the object or action happen around 9-10 months. By 2-1/2 years you’ll wish they never started talking in the first place! :-)

My daughter's first word wasn't until 9 months old. She babbled for a while too. Totally normal.

For their first word, maybe 6 or 7 months. For actual speech, a year or so.

The baby talk is very important even if we don't understand it. Mirror her sounds back and get a "conversation" going. Our first boy was about 15 months when he looked at a street light and said "light". I'll never forget. We were going out to dinner in San Bruno, California. :-) Have fun!!!

Muhc older than 5 months. They start babbling real words such as "mama" or "dada" before a year old, but they don't really know what they mean yet.
