My daugher is 8 months old. I breast feed but I dont think she is getting enough milk. She has breast milk about 5 times a day , but only for like 5 or 10 min. She WILL NOT TAKE FORMULA!!!!! She does eat other things but I am just worried about her milk intake. I realized that she was getting too much juice, she was drinking about 3 bottles full a day. SO I only give her a coupple of ounces of juice when we go somewhere to try to get her to take more breast milk. Am I doing somehting wronge? I believe my milk has decreased. It takes me about 2 1/2 days to be full enough to be slightly uncomfortable.

Don't worry so much about how your breasts feel, or how long she's on the breast- how much is she peeing/pooping? Ask your pediatrician what is normal for a babe her age, or talk with La Leche League. You can get free support and find a support meeting where you can talk to other mothers about breastfeeding challenges/successes and just get some help.

Cut back on the juice/formula, they're going to interfere more with your milk than anything else. Offer more often, if you're worried. The more your baby suckles, the more it tells your breasts "make more!! make more!!" and in a few days you'll see a difference. Also, make sure you're drinking enough water, too!

It's not hard, you should see a difference in a few days. But your body naturally adjusts to the supply/demand of your baby and the longer you nurse the less forceful you'll feel your breasts get full.

Offer, offer, offer that breast! You're doing great!

Pumping milk is a really good idea. Then your baby would still be getting breast milk, but you would know exactly how much. If you have trouble pumping then you are probably drying up. When my sister weaned her baby from breat milk she did it slowly. She would pump milk then make a bottle with formula and mix the two together. She then slowly started putting less and less breast milk in the bottle until he would take the formula.
My girls ped. doctor told me to give only 4 ounces of half juice/half water a day until they were closer to a year old. If your baby is still gaining weight I am sure that she is getting enough milk.
Good luck!

I"m sure she is getting plenty of your milk. Besides Most ppl quit breast feeding when their children are about six or eight months old. Have you tried Pumping? If she won't drink formula.. you could try pumping that would help increase your milk supply.. and then you would know exactly how much milk your daughter is getting. Just a suggestion.

Don't give her as much juice. If you breast feed her more often, you will produce more breast milk. If that is not possible, start pumping. Drink, Drink, Drink keep sipping. It will make you make more breast milk.

Talk to your pediatrician.....I had trouble breast feeding my daughter and when I told my pediatrician that I was supplementing w/juice and canned formula he said to just forego the breast feeding and give her the formula and juice....once you start having trouble making breast milk that usually means you are "drying" up. Know what I mean? I think the best advice I can give you is to talk to your pediatrician and possibly your ob/gyn. Good luck.
