Wanna shop for general things like apparels, perfumes, electronics, as well as anything else (including local specialities, if any). Please suggest retail outlets, and not websites as i would be staying in hotels.

Water Tower Place has a large selection of shops. It is on Michigan Avenue on the near north side of Chicago. From there you could walk south on Michigan avenue and find a multitude of stores, shops, outlets, and restaurants (you've eventually got to eat, right?).

If you are looking for a guide, my wife would be happy to volunteer. But seriously, for high-end shopping go to Michigan Avenue, Water Tower Place and Oak Street. They are all in walking distance of each other.

For large suburban shopping malls go to either Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg or Oak Brook Mall in Oak Brook.

Gurnee Mills, which is in the boonies, is a discount mall. There are also outlet malls in Huntley and Aurora. Again, you'll need a car to get there.

Skip Chicago and go to Paris. Shopping is a dream there...much better than in Chicago. Be sure to check out the shopping area that is connected to the Louvre. And don't forget Tati ... near Sacre-Coeur. You'll thank me.
