Very hard to tell. I would not say that income has anything to do with it. There is such a thing as a "miserable success." It largely depends on how you feel about yourself. Some people can have everything materialistically, but still feel empty. If you feel rock bottom no one can argue with that. It is up to each individual to feel accomplished. Deeds alone cannot bring pride about. On a purely literal terminology, I would call rock-bottom as when a person's life is so wreckless that it begins to make other people suffer, whether that be their kids, their spouse, their relatives otherwise, or even just their neighbors. I mean, if you suffer for personal mistakes that's one thing, but for it to burden kids or other family members, that is when it becomes shameful. Rock bottom is when, I guess, you have a situation but can't bring yourself to overcome it, especially if the solution is available. I would classify rock-bottom as something of shame. I wouldn't call depression rock-bottom, because that is not a fault of someone. Rock-bottom has to do with struggling.

I was divorced in 1989 from a guy who fathered 2 children with me. He took off and had an affair with a lady he worked with and left me and my 11 month old and 3 year old with nothing. We had no groceries, no money and nothing to live on. It was the 1st week in March and the gas company shut off my gas, so we had no heat because he refused to pay the bill which was in my name, so there we were in the cold. I borrowed a carosun heater and closed off 1 room in the house to keep warm and waited for spring to come with my 2 little kids. Thank you lord, my sister came and saved me. I had hit bottom. I could write a book.

My friends and I always say, "You know, if this is rock bottom, we might as well just walk around for a little bit." My point is, there's always a silver lining - just find something to smile about. Good luck to ya.

I think rock bottom is the point where you either choose to die (pr continue with the actions that will lead to your your death), or you choose to make the changes you need in order to continue living.
