Definitely. Being gay is not a crime or socially offensive identity such as a racist or sexist. It is simply a matter of human attraction. No one should be given less respect solely because of their sexual orientation. It's just ridiculous.

Love should not be categorized. If two people love each other then the chances are good that their love will affect others' lives in a positive way as well. A person's sexual preference should be of no consequence; that is a private matter for everyone. But love, respect, dignity, and honor in any human being is to be respected above all.

Whether "straight" or "gay"; black, white, or brown; short, tall, fat, or skinny, people are still people with problems, fears, worries, and feelings. I like to think I "respect" everyone and hope the same thing for myself from others.
It is our attitudes and actions which should earn the respect of others, nothing as trivial as sexual choices.

Like other what? Like other human beings? Like other citizens? You can tell someone is gay just by looking at them and therefor less deserving of respect or basic human rights? There was a time in the USA when many people believed that a certain segment of the population was less deserving of respect and rights because of the color of their skin. My answer is - of course gays deserve the same respect as every human being and citizen of the world. We are all human beings first and secondly gay, straight, immigrants, citizens, women, men, white, Hispanic, black, Asian, whatever label or definition you want to use. I don't just believe this, I know it.

Respect is an interesting choice of words.
All people are CREATED equal. Once we begin to make life choices, we deside wehter we are to be respected, or not. There are behaviors that are not acceptable. Because someone makes a choice that gives them life results that are less than what they had desired, doesn't mean that they are less of a human being.
Everyone deserves respect. Some people, based upon their actions, do not deserve to be just "given" the same results as someone who is acting in an appropriate manner to get the results out of life that are satisfying to them.
We all earn what we have. If someone does not have respect, they did not earn respect.
Since you have worded the question the way you have, Ican also interpret your question as meaning, do gay people deserve to be as respectful as others. Yes. We should all be respectful of eachother. But we do not have to condone behavior that does not deserve our respect.

No. Being gay is all about engaging in depraved acts. They deserve no respect and get none from most clear thinking people.

Not all gays are like this...just most gays. Relatively normal gays are treated just like everyone else.

Or, to put this another way, just like everyone else in society, gays get treated with exactly the respect that their behavior merits. Good, decent people who happen to be gay are well liked and respected by almost everyone. But, your average, drug using, felon screwing, 500 anonymous sexual contacts a year, freakazoid is not....and should not.

The problem is that good, decent people who happen to be gay are extremely rare. This is a relatively new phenomenon that didn't exist prior to the last few generations. Note that previous to this, nobody thought much about gays, let alone hassled them. All the trouble started when they started to identify with depraved acts.

Yes, the same respect as human beings, but I don't respect their lifestyle choice. And furthermore I don't respect them when they try to force us to accept their lifestyle choice, via the court. People say it shouldnt matter what people do in the privacy of their own home, and I agree with that. So keep it in the privacy of the home. No more "pride" parades. No more crusades for gay marraige. No more comparing their struggles to African American struggles for equality. Gay people have never seen real discrimination like Black Americans have.

I respect all people, but I dont always respect what all people do.

Respect is something that is earned, not an entitlement. You show a mutual respect to others when you are polite and courteous on a daily basis, and in turn it is expected that you should receive that same type of treatment back to you. I believe that unless people are disrespectful to you personally, it is not for any one of us to decide who gets to be respected and who doesn't. It is when people disrespect us, by either committing crimes or just being plain rude, that it is within our rights to return that same treatment of disrespect or decide that it is better to avoid wasting your energies and good name on disrespectful people. As this relates to the question, I believe that gays deserve every bit of respect that we give to any other person, whether they be black, white, hispanic, catholic, wiccan, italian, russian, japanese, etc... The best way to keep it in mind as to how you would treat someone, remember that you want to be treated as a human as well, so treat others as you want to be treated and that pretty much keeps a good handle on it.

Most people would say that one must first respect themselves, and should respect others as they`d like to be respected. also there is the belief that one must earn respect by the way they carry themselves. I agree with all of the above, because if I don`t respect myself ,why should I expect anyone else to respect me?

I think that everyone deserves respect, sexuality should not be a deciding factor on whether you respect someone. You should respect people for who they are not because they are gay or straight.
