And how will this affect the azzurri's performance?

Gianluca Pessotto played with Juventus until the end of the previous Serie A (he is only 35) and he was a great player in the National Team too. Great man and exceptional professional player. He was nominated Team Manager just a month ago, after the scandal involving the Team.
At this time is still early to have an idea of what really happened, and any speculation is just unfair towards him and his family.
The most important thing is that he is alive and doctors most likely will save his life.
DelPiero, Zambrotta and Ciro Ferrara have immediately left Germany and reached Turin to be next to him.
This episode has a huge impact on the National Team, but the "Azzurri" will react in the best way: winning with Ukraine and dedicate that to him! Italians always double their power in cases like this!

The real question is: Why didn't the whole Juventus Board of Directors commit group suicide instead of picking the manager as the scapegoat to protect others? Match-fixing is an Italian (and possibly World Cup) tradition. The fact is, in both Serie A and the World Cup, those who control the game cannot tolerate "lower status" teams winning and bursting the myth that the "higher status" teams are superior, which they are not. It is about MONEY and POWER.

I was devastated when I read about his attempted suicide, the important thing he's alive. The azzurri's will give it their all to win the World Cup and dedicate it to Gianluca Pessotto.

Attempted suicide , you got to be kidding , he was pushed!
he was just about to spill the beans on the betting scandal,
and the pay offs to the ref's in the Aussie game,

Hopefully, the team will be motivated to play even harder, to win in his honor. The downside is they could use these two days to rest and practice, instead of being tired out from traveling and being in a hospital.
