My husband is addicted to ebay and I am going to bite his head off if he buys one more thing without talking to me first.

Hey thickchix... thanks for the input but there's more to the story... I'm not being a *****. He just bought his 3rd projector for $400 cause the first two he got from ebay were crap. Another thing is half the sh!t he gets can't be sent to a military address so he has to send it to his parents and have them send it here... he might as well have just bought a new one that is guaranteed to do its job and have it shipped directly here.

come on ang!!! ebay is harmless!!! do you ask him everytime you want to buy yourself something? ebay is no different than going to the mall and buying something.
actually, it is quite addictive, with the bidding and feeling like you won at the end, even if you did spend multiples of what you had intended. your right, change the credit card number you have on file with ebay that you registered with, and you wont be able to bid anymore if you give them a fictitious number.

if you have IE go to tools then internet options. Then go to the security tab. then find select restricted site and add ebay to the list of restricted sites. the newer versions of IE gives you the option of password protecting things like that also so might want to try that. And if your husband is smart enough you might want to go to your command prompt and ping the site you want to block so that you can get the ip address and block that too. Hope this helps if you need more info let me know be glad to help.

Your broadband router or firewall may have a setting that allows you to disable a website. It's also possible to add entries to the hosts file on your local machine that redirect some Internet hostnames to 127.0.0.1. The problem there is that eBay uses many hosts to serve their website, so you may have a problem blocking all of them.
Perhaps you two should seek counseling as well.

simple go to www.trendmicro.com now download there free trial of the internet security suite pc-cillin.
this is not just able to block web sites this software allows you to block the entire web or just a few sites that you select. it can be passord enabled to block access to changing the settings.
it is alsow a great anti-virus and anti-spyware program.
best of all it's relatively cheap to buy once the free trial is up.
personally though I'm trialing the windows VISTA x64 version of the software and WOW it's better and easier to use than norton internet security and it's also cheaper double bonus.
i hope that helps.
if you need help running the program email me direct garylsmith1973@lineone.net with reference to yahoo answers in the subject line of the email.

edit your .hosts file and add the line:
www.ebay.com 127.0.0.1
This will make your computer think that www.ebay.com is actually located ON your computer so when he goes there it will say page not found. you might have to switch the number and the name, I can't remember the order. When you open the file there should already be a default entry which looks like "localhost 127.0.0.1"
Of course, negotiation and self control are better ways. =)

I think if you have a program like NetNanny or something similar, you can choose certain sites that you want to be blocked.
It will also automatically block sites with profain or obscene content.

dont call the cable subscriber, thats the stupidest thing i ever heard. you might want to try getting a parental control program that you can use to block sites or require a password to get to them.

you can block a site in explorer under tools/internet options/content/enable/approved sites, or in the windows firewall, but he can unblock it, i'd really call his mother or get a lawyer :)
