The main problem with the people that say anime sucks is because they have never watched it, I didn't like anime a year ago and I use to tell people who watched it that it sucked, but one night after Family Guy was done and Inuyasha came on, and i couldn't find the remote and was too lazy to get up and look for it so i watched Inuyasha, and for some reason it was the first episode of the show, usually they never play the first episode so maybe it was fated that i watch Inuyasha. Well after seeing the first episode I decided to watch it again the next night, and every night after that i have never missed an episode of Inuyasha when it came on. As of now I've seen all the English episodes and movies and hope to see more. However, I do not have much of an interest in other anime, Inuyasha currently is the only one i like even after seeing dozens of others.
Looking back before I started watching Inuyasha, there is a combination of things that make people dislike anime and the people who watch it:
1. They think it is childish because of shows like Pokemon and dragon ball z
2. They find it fake and out of touch with reality
3. There are people who profusely and almost religiously talk about and advertise anime (you know the otakus as they proclaim themselves to be, that sit in a small group and read manga)
The last point probably being the biggest deturrent of people from anime. Now, just because I like one show doesn't mean I buy the shirts, go to the conventions, play the video games, and talk to the nerds. I am probably the least likely of all the people in my senior class to be seen as someone who likes anime, considering I have a lot of friends from almost every social clique, am a hardcore republican, and i get good grades. I don't go to school and talk about anime and only my close friends know that i watch Inuyasha not that i am embarrassed by it but usually because it isn't a topic of conversation and not an interest of any of my friends. However, people who refuse to even watch one anime show are afraid to like it because they are afraid of alienation from their normal group of friends because the three points I listed above have created a social taboo on anime.
Most likely people will not stop condemning those who like anime, it is just a part of life and will always occur. People who like anime should just realize that what other people think of them doesn't matter. Instead of trying to paint an image of themselves that they think society would find pleasing and acceptable, people just need to be themselves and you will be happy and have others who like them regardless of their different interests. I hate the phrase "people need to be more open-minded" because open-minded people are usually hypocritical in their stance because if they were truly open-minded then they could be open-minded of the opposing point of view and accept that as a valid point as well instead of trying to completely eliminate the counter argument with the all mighty open-minded phrase. Another thing the open-minded phrase does is it makes a situation uncontrollable to the one using it, instead of focusing on others, focus on what you can do to make the situation better for yourself, this simply requires a change in your perspective, as i mentioned above, just realize that other people really don't matter, they have a right to their opinion whether it's uneducated or not, the same goes for you.
Well I guess that was a longer response then I thought it would be but I was bored.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why so much anime today has to incorporate CG as if it were their obligation to do so. It looks completely out of place and makes me think that the artists have gotten lazy. I mean look at something like Nadia or Akira -- everything is done by hand and fits together as a seamless whole. Then watch pretty much anything recent. Chances are it's littered with CG.
It's not just the backgrounds which have been given the CG treatment, either. Nowadays they even use CG to color in the cel drawings. It's too artificial-looking, too squeaky clean. Finally, the art, storytelling and character designs are all cliche/generic. It's tacky and cheap.
CG should be used for games and CG movies, not anime. Keep the CG out of anime.

The main problem is people automatically believe anime is for children, so they don't want anything to do with it. Shows like Yugioh, Pokemon, and the like kind of put that into everyone's minds. But, what some people probably wouldn't know, is that Speed Racer, is an anime..and almost everyone old enough to know, has seen Speed Racer.
The other misconception is, if it isn't a child's cartoon, then it is animated porn for creepy nerds. Which, yes, there is anime porn out there, but it is respectively called 'hentai'...and some is distastful, and some are just like the other porn released.
My favorite saying is 'you need to have an open mind' because anime is created for ALL people of all ages. Not all anime has girls with big boobs, or giant robots fighting in the middle of tokyo. There are shows that have real life situations going on in them, but every now and again they throw in a bit of wackiness...but who doesn't love a little bit of oddness in their life? Or randomness...anime is pure random, which is great.
Next time someone says something bad about anime, ask them if they've even watched it before..if so, ask what show. If they say 'pokemon' say, "Go home, turn on Adult Swim, and give Cowboy Bebop a shot.' or Trigun, Fullmetal Alchemist, Samurai Champloo, etc...These are great starter animes...Most people will be addicted after one ep and they will surely stick their foot in their mouth ^__^ Don't go off the deep end about it..just let them think what they want, and just know, that there are other people out in the world who do enjoy anime and think it rocks completely.
*btw, my roommate, last year said she hated anime, would not ever watch it, etc....now she is as big a fan as I am after seeing a few episodes of Samurai Champloo. ^___~ *

Because people in the USA grew up with cartoons centered around fighting and fueds and anime can have whole episodes without any fighting. take naruto for example, there are several chapters in the manga devoted to him trying to lurn to summon a giant frog. now in america the same ammoutnt of chapters would cover several fights with several different badguys.
Maybe it's just that people lack the attention span to get into anime, since many have intertwined story arcs it's almost necessary to start from the begining, where as with western animation most episodes try to be stand alones or they belong to short story arcs. Anime can have story arcs that span seasons.

I'm an anime and manga freak and I'm so way OLD (well not ancient or falling apart). But I like Pokemon type of shows all the way up to Reyearth, Evangelion, InuYasha, etc. It's a great way to escape the realism. Also, for those that don't like it, I feel they just haven't found the right one. There are so many different types of anime from comedy, fantasy, romance and tons for guys as well. Look at Harlequin Romance. They are starting to produce Manga only because it's such a growing market. So is anime ... that's why Disney purchased rights to do Miyazaki's ANIME movies in english. Don't worry. Its growing in popularity. It just hasn't reached Yahoo!Answers as fast as it should.

Anime as a whole is a very dissapointing aspect in the animation world. Sure, it's imaginative, but it lacks personality and charm, not to mention credibility. The Japanese should leave animation to those who really made it an art-form. Studios like Disney made it credible and artistic. Long live Walt Disney Studios.

A lot of people like anime. Maybe the people telling you that it sucks honestly dont like it, which is okay, but maybe theyre just doing it because youre easy to get a rise out of. Are you always talking about it? Is every other word out of your mouth Anime? We used to tease this kid because he liked a certain comic book character A LOT, but the truth was I liked that character too. It was just fun getting a rise out of him. Think about it.

Well it might depend a lot on their tastes.
Or maybe its hard for some to like most anime.
For example , i like one piece , black lagoon and even monster musume but....
Most animes like fairy tail or naruto just dont call out my attention.
Since were raised more like americans or europeans (presuming this question is from someone from those places like myself)
If we were raised more oftenly with cartoons it would be a bit odd for us to like anime but thats just how it is for some.

I'm not a big fan myself. Although, I've been impressed with some films I've been shown...for the most part I find the animation poorly and cheaply done. Also, male characters always look very ifeminate.
