Do you need special permission? If so, where do you get it or what do you have to do. Cuba is a tourist destination from Canada. Would I be able to enter from Canada or would this be against our governments regulations?

No travel allowed from U.S to Cuba. Travel is very restricted. The first site will take you to the U.S Embassy site for Cuba. Even when going through another country you will have to show proof of citizenship. Pretty much you must have a license and a visa from the U.S. to travel to Cuba. Even if you do get that license souvenirs may be difficult to bring back to the U.S. If you are a U.S citizen you are considered to be under U.S. jurisdiction. Instead of me rambling on there is quite a bit of red tape for travel to Cuba and that means you can't get on a plane tomorrow to go even from Canada.

No. you need extremely special permission or Canadian citizenship. America still considers cuba as an enemy of the USA, and does not allow any legal trade to occur between the two countries. Canada on the other hand, does not consider Cuba as such and therefore allows it. For you, Puerto Rico might be a better destination, seeing as it was once an american colony

The Cubans will allow US citizens in no problem, you can actually buy a visa right on the airplane. And they will refrain from stamping your passport.
Most visitors to Cuba fly through Mexico (Mexico City, Merida) or Canada (Toronto).

The US government has been cracking down on visitors to Cuba, lveying heavy fines (upwards of $40,000).
Here are some articles about the government crackdown:

No, you can't go to Cuba unless you have very special circumstances. You CAN'T go through a third country either (guess what, they thought of that too). I was curious, so I looked it up on the State Department's website. You have to be a journalist, family member, missionary, student or professor, or have other special reasons. The specifics are all on the site below.

No, go to Canada--or Mexico, or the bahamas. You can go to Cuba and the Cuban immigration won't stamp your passport. It's done in the Bahamas all the time--2 flights a week.

no. if you have a us citizenship you are not allowed to travel to cuba at all. there was a trip made like a couple of years ago, but not recently. if you are discovered to be american, you will not be allowed to leave the country of cuba...but you could ask the embassy.
