I was watching Hells Kitchen the other day and I watched the chef
just completly verbally destroy these people individually. I mean it would'nt have been so bad if he would have done it to one team at a time but instead he was just tearing into each of them. On commercial I reflected back to the days when I was working construction and how the forman would be so brutle at times. And then I thought about the people that are in the army and have to go thru boot camp. Why do people allow themselfes to go thru this kind of humiliation and torment? Is it just human nature that when someone is chewing you out that because it damadges ones pride and self esteem that we, as humans, become paralized with fear. What holds us back from retaliation. To be able to endure harsh critisicm and riticule would be considered a healthy mind to be able to over come the fear that may grip some people? I ponder this question of the human mind and wonder if maybe someone with some insight can help me.

We all can't be "alpha" personalities. Most people are followers, and the respect of authority alone, drives many of us. The reason we seldom "retalliate" is because of fear and reason. Getting even usually results in a predicament that is worse than what we started with.

Why??

In that particular TV show..it is because theyve been promised a great chance to own/operate a multi-Million dollar restaurant in Las Vegas...

Your Construction gig told you that paycheck equalled a brutal Boss!

The Military uses demeaning recruits as a way to tear down what Momma taught em and rebuild em into Lean Mean Fighting Machines..and get that paycheck every month too.

believe me..if there wasnt something in it for those that were brutalized..then wed have Auschwitz..wouldnt we?? And even the Nazis thought there was some value in that..although I dont really see how? And even the prisoners find some form of currency to use while inside..and being brutalized...

Check out the film.."Bent"...youll see!

In some cases its cowardice, sometimes its the belief that even if you did stand up for yourself it wouldn't help or it would make the situation worse, you can always just allow yourself self-pity, another option is to snap and act out, some people might not care or let it get to them, then of course you could always just stand up for what you believe in, in a reasonable manner. The reaction differs person to person.

Well you have to realize that people in this country will do anything for money, so the people in this show Hell's Kitchen are willing to put up with anything. I totally agree with you because I saw the show myself and I swear there is no way that man would have insulted me like that and still be alive, I would have knocked him the F out... It is a crazy thing but people would do anything for money....
