I have a 12 year old. She is mature & responsible. Go around your neighborhood & ask moms with little kids (no diaper changing) if they would like to get anything done (while they are at home, like laundry, gardening etc.) Offer to stay with the kids and say you would like $5 to $7 per hour make up flyers too and post them in markets & laundry mats. Then after a year of doing this, you now have references and you can expand on your abilities and wages even while the parent isn't home. It worked for her & good luck!

besides the obvious of parental permission and knowing who you are babysitting for, can you take care of yourself? If you can than you should be able to babysit younger children for short amounts of time.

Sure! Can you follow a schedule? Do you follow instructions? Do you know how to handle emergencies such as fires, injuries, and temper tantrums?
At 12, you are very capable of taking care of younger children. For a few hours, at least. BUT..........work is work! If you are a responsible person, it is no sweat. If you are looking for easy money, this ain't it!

Holy cow, we get a babysitter for our 12 year old...he is in no way responsible enough to be left alone. And in the care of other children is almost incomprehensible. WOW!
