Before he starts counting I mean. I always see the refs pointing in different directions and saying stuff to them...what are they pointing at and what are they saying?

i wrestel for my school and normaly the ref is warning one of them about an ileegal move they might be doing or telling how much longer the match is

He actually has a few jobs while out there. Alot of people think the refs are just there to count the pin and watch out for fowl play but When u see him interacting with them that way. He could be doing one of three things..
1. Letting them know where the cameras are at that point
2. Advising them on whats ment to happen next, should the match be a storyline match. (Meaning not an actuall sporting contest)
or 3. Keeping tab on them physically.

The referee is one of the most important parts in keeping a wrestling match going well. They are so good that most people do not even catch it. The referee is the link between the wrestlers and the people in charge backstage. They are feeding them information like how much time is left or when to hit big spots. You will notice when you watch that all refs where earpieces. This is to get instructions from the back.

The ref encourages and checks on them, for real. Other things are just for the show, I mean, he's ref, like in any other sport. All refs mumble or at lest move their mouth during whatever they are refing.

They are just doing it for show. In reality they are just telling them they are doing a great job and encouraging them to put some more effort in there acting skills while make beleiving there are being count out..

The referees are telling how more many minutes until their match ends or the referees are telling the wrestlers how to finish the match.
