Wondering about rifle and pistol shooting.

I don't remember his name but i recall hearing about a guy in the army in the vietnam era who didn't fight because the army kept him in America because he was such a good shooter it made good PR for the army. I remember being told that he could toss asprin in the air and shoot it with a .22.
