Well, you will need a decent computer (1ghz, 512mb memory and LOTS of hard drive space. You will probably want a "better than average sound card - mAudio makes good stuff. You will need a DAW or digital audio workstation program such as Cubase, Cakewalk etc. You'll also need: A mixing board (Behringer makes good ones on the cheap), some microphones (types vary with intended usage), microphone cables, mic stands etc.

This is just "getting started.....

If i were u i would go to sound recording school unless u already know everything u need to know. Then i would get an internship with a good recording studio such (the mixroom) to see how everything works and maybe they will like u and thats where it would start. The best place to do this would be L.A.

Hope you got a lot of money. First you got to think about mixing boards. How big, etc. Then you need a good pair of headphones. Like those ones used by DJs. If your going to have people play live think about sound proofing the room. Especially if they play bass, I can tell you from experience that it sucks being woken up to the sound of a bass player. And make sure you price before you buy and get warranties.
