It depends on the baby. Some like the swinging motion and some don't.
My baby was finished with his swing by 5 months, so you should check the weight limits on the swings you like if you decide to buy one for your 4 month old so that you get enough use out of it for the money you will be spending.
Also, some babies like the forward and back motion of a swing, but others like side to side motion. I would suggest, if you do buy one, to purchase one that does both that way your baby can decide which she likes best.

Get an outdoor baby swing. The kind that you hang from a tree. They are about $15 in Walmart, Target, K-Mart. My 2 1/2 year old still likes to swing in his. They last until they are 4 yrs. old. I actually picked mine up at a yard sale for $5. I wouldn't recommend getting an indoor baby swing now. Both of my sons were done with theirs around 5 months. I got a lot more use out of the exersaucer.

Well we bought one swing for my little girl when she was 4 months the one with lights and music. Though she didn't notice those before it took her 2 more months to enjoy. But right from the day one she sat there for very little time! and never ever slept in it. Possibly b'coz of the lights and sound. She is one hyper baby and those lights or even the movement of the swing wud take her sleep away!
After she started to crawl she hated to be straped in it! and now she simply plays with it jumps out it and i've put it aside!
So it depends on ur baby. If she's active kind then swings really not for her! Though u cud buy one from a moving sale or something to save some money. Or u cud borrow from someone u know for a week or two for trial then buy one for ur baby if she likes it.
I repent for wasting 70 bucks on the swing! So think and try before buying one.

I found with both of my children, they found it very soothing. I started using it when they were about 2-3 months old. It is very versitle. Buy a portable swing. You can use it wherever you go. You can use it while feeding them their baby food as well. It will also come to use when you have to do some chores around the house. You can keep an eye on them while you get things done. Plus when they are asleep, you really don't have to move them. People say that they will hurt their neck. They'll be fine.

I tried a baby swing with both my kids. My daughter loved it and it always put her to sleep. My son cried every time I put him in it. It turned out that he got motion sickness from the movement. So, it's a chance you take that your baby will like it. But, if money is tight you might look to borrow one just to see if you think it's worthwhile. Also, since your baby is already 4 months old, it may not be worth it. Most babies, by the time they are 5 months, are happy and easy to please.

It depends...I used one for my daughter, but started younger than 4 months...I bought it, and she didn't really care for it most of the time...others, she slept like, well, like a baby in it. :) They are expensive though, and for the amount of time a baby is actually in the swing.. speaking age-wise here, I don't think it's worth it to buy...do you know someone that isn't using theirs now? Borrowing is the best idea...or maybe e-bay? or a garage sale? Just make sure that it is in good condition...and that it is still certified safe. I'm not sure if they are like car seats, which need to be replaced every few years.
Where are you at? Mine is probably in the basement...don't use it anymore.

She is probably past the age that they are worth it. The get the most enjoyment and use out of them between 0 and 3 months. At this point, I wouldnt buy one. Probably a waste...by four months they like to be able to move around and the swing can be confining.

That depends...do you value your sanity???
Just kidding. They are great. If cost is a factor, go to yard sales or hit up friends that have had kids and could lend you one. Second hand stores are good too. Most swings come with removeable seat covers, and are easy to clean, so buying a used one is no big deal. I think you will find a swing a good investment, especially if there are more children in the future.

I ended up getting 2 travel swings at my baby shower. My daughter loved it! Definitely worth it if you can get one. She would fall asleep sometimes and take her nap in it! I had the fisher price one with the music and toys (linkadoos) and she loved batting at the toys and looking in the mirror. Even just the swinging motion she liked. She still wants me to get it out once in a while when she sees it, because she likes to turn it on and sit in it with her dolls, or put her dolls and stuffed animals in it and let them swing. The only thing about them is the need for batteries if you get one that uses them. They take 4 'C' batteries, so be ready to have to replace them.

It really just depends on the baby. Some babies love them and some not so much. My son barely used his. Luckily it was a gift so we didn't pay for it. But I would suggest trying it out. That is the only way you can really know if your baby will enjoy it or not. One thing that my son loved was his bouncy sit, most babies seem to love these. So this is something you might want to try out as well.
