I found a virus in my computer.
I successfully deleted it, but not sure if it'll strike again.
Does deleting it enough to kill that virus?
BTW, I don't know what the virus name is but here are the details I found with it.
It is 41.6KB in size and has a date stamp is 2/1/2006. It is an *.exe file but has an icon that looks like a folder. It hides in the bottom most sub folder and copies the name of that folder.
Behavior:
-when you double click it, it opens another windows explorer.
-it reproduce itself and copying itself to the bottom most sub folder and using the name of that folder. (example: C:\work\dec2005; the virus will put a copy of itself in that directory and will have a name: dec2005.exe with an icon that looks like folder)
please give more info regrding this.
Thanks!

thanks guys for your answers.
i've downloaded AVG and scanned my PC.
It successfully detected and deleted the virus.
However, I think the virus wrote something in the registry (or somewhere).
Every time I start my Windows, it prompts that a file is missing (C:\Windows\ex___.exe) < sorry,i forgot the name >
i tried looking for it in the registry but when I run regedit my PC prompts me that I don't have adminitrator rights to edit the registry.
Anyway, I'll try the Symantec's solution and will tell you tomorrow what will happen. (thanks Mawella!)

According to your discription I think your computer was infected with the virus worm called W32.Rontokbro@mm or W32.Rontokbro.D@mm.I also found it in my computer.I tried to remove it with my antivirus software but when I try to update the virus defenition worm tries to restart the matchine. So I format all disks & install a new copy of windows. But deleting the virus will not solve the problem.because many viruses add new values to the windows registry & make changes in system files.
To make sure that you are free from above viruses,
goto Start->Run,then type regedit and press Ok,If your computer is infected you cant access the registry editor.
Or open My computer & click on tools manu, if folder options is not there your computer is still infected.
Or check the sheduled tasks in contorl panel if there is a sheduled task at 5 :08 PM then still you are infected.
for more info visit,

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.rontokbro@mm.html
If you want to get rid of this problem scan the hard disk with a upto date antivirus software & follow thair removing iinstructions corectly.
good luck

Deleting the virus is enough to kill it, provided that (a) you have indeed deleted the virus and not something else and (b) you have deleted the whole of it.
Note that some viruses consist of multiple components and if you delete just one of the components, the others will restore it. Also, note that some viruses do not reside in files at all, so you can't delete them.
All in all, it is best that you obtain some reasonably good anti-virus program and check that your computer is indeed virus-free.
And remember that even if the virus is removed, you're still left with the question of what damage it might have already done.

You just described all virus's.
Go here and run the online scan and see it it detects anything.

Some times they hide part of the virus in hidden files. The later download the virus again. If it does come back go to this site and use your AV program instead of the AS programs. Follow the Procedure though.
