"You know, there are four hundred billion stars out there, just in our galaxy alone. If only one out of a million of those had planets, and just of out of a million of those had life, and just one out of a million of those had intelligent life; there would be literally millions of civilizations out there." - Contact. So if there's is another civilisation out there that we haven't found yet and may not for many thousands of years, they are incredibly far away, leading their own existence, possibly thinking the same thoughts as you, possibly incredibly more advanced than we are, possibly just dredging themselves out of the bog. Never close your mind to the possibilities, and even though NASA is one of the most expensive organisations on the Earth, just imagine the possibilities. There are a lot of people and governments with more money that gets wasted on much more useless stuff...

as you can see from the previous answers, it is mathematically impossible that there would be no life except here on earth. so it is probably just a matter of time before we find it. in fact, scientists are fairly certain that there was water on mars at one time which means that it was highly likely that life (in a basic form at least) existed there at some point.

btw, none of this has anything to do with nasa. it is verified by independent researchers from all over the world.

It's just a matter of looking at the numbers. One hundred billion galaxies each with about a hundred billion stars (give or take a few billion). Those are numbers most people can't even get their minds around.
Now, if you look just at the Earth. Life will flourish wherever it gets the chance (from bacteria growing in a tiny crevice somewhere to a flower growing in a crack in the sidewalk). If you apply this universally to all of the potential planets out there, it is difficult to imagine life only taking hold in one place.

Without question there is life outside of earths orbit. NASA is not looking life as it primary goal. There are far more potential reasons for NASA being in space.
