We will be in Pensacola for a 3 day weekend mid-July and would like to know the best places for fun, sun and food. Also are there any places that we should avoid?

The blue angels will be doing their air show over the beach on the weekend of July 15th. Be prepared for a LARGE beach crowd. At least that has been the case in the past.
There is plenty to do in Pensacola. I live in Pensacola and I LOVE IT! The beach (http://www.pensacolabeach.com/beaches.ht... is quite popular here with beautiful white sand beaches. You can ride jet skis, go fishing, go para sailing, just lay on the beach and soak up the sun, or the newest attraction is diving the Oriskany. They just sunk it recently and it is the largest artificial reef in the world. The night life at the beach is pretty laid back too. The boardwalk is a popular place for people of all kinds young and old alike to go and enjoy the night. There are places to eat, drink, walk along the water or on the pier, and many different types of music to listen to as well. During the summer months they have BLUES ON THE BEACH http://www.visitpensacolabeach.com/news/bluesonthebeach.htm which is good family fun. On the weekends on the sound side at quietwater boardwalk there is like an open air stage where anyone can go and perform musical acts. The Air Museum is a neat place to go for an indoor activity. Sams Fun City http://www.samsfuncity.com/ is an amusement park in town. Right next to them is the Rave Movie Theater if you want to catch a movie when the sun goes down. There is TOO much eating to do here with A LOT OF SEAFOOD PLACES to choose from, but a must if you're here for a visit is the famous restaurant MCGUIRE'S (http://www.mcguiresirishpub.com/)... - Great Hamburgers there any way you can imagine them and HUGE. I also hear they have GREAT steaks. Drinking places - a popular drink here is bushwacker. There is even a festival(http://www.jubileefun.com/) for the drink at the beach each year. McGuire's is an Irish Pub that has a drink called the wake. Another popular party place is Seville Square in downtown Pensacola in the historic district. There are several places to eat and drink! For shopping we have two malls University (http://www.simon.com/mall/mall_info.aspx... and Cordova (http://www.simon.com/mall/default.aspx?i... with a variety of stores in each mall. If you're up for about a hours drive you can find OUTLET shopping by going east to Destin or west to Foley. Oh and the BIG KAHUNAS water park is pretty popular in Destin, and Waterville USA is pretty popular in Gulf Shores. If you like neat little towns I suggest a visit to Fairhope. It is a beautiful little town with Southern charm.

I moved to Pensacola 6 years ago. There are a lot of fun things to do here on the weekends. A lot of these have already been mentioned, but depending on the age of you group, you may find a short drive to Destin, FL an enjoyable experience. We went to the Gulfarium this spring and loved the dolphin shows. As for the best places to eat:

Joe Patti's for seafood - www.joepattis.com
McGuires for an Irish Pub experience - www.mcguiresirishpub.com
The Coffee Cup - The best breakfast anywhere - 502 Cervantes St.

There's a lot more to mention, but if you really want the best info, wait til you get to town, wander away from the beach and ask a native Pensacolian. These folks are the friendliest people I've ever met.

Absolutely ... The Naval Air Museum - Pensacola Beach on the protected national seashore - Ft Pickins, where Geronimo was imprisoned for awhile and some say the first shots of the Civil War were fired - And if you like country music go about 30 miles NE to Chumuckla and the Farmer's Opry. Food? Lots of great seafood places in town - pick one overlooking the water somewhere. There are a few near the old municipal piers. I will be going "down home" in late July and look forward to the food!

Go to the US Navy Blue Angels Museum. The Blue Angels are based in Pensacola, at Pensacola Naval Air Station. Also the beaches are great.

About 40 - 50 miles east are Fort Walton Beach and Destin, which are resort areas, with lots of great beaches, great shopping, great restaurants, and for you young studs, lots of pretty girls.

the air museum is great especially if you'll have kids with you. the downtown is cute and penisicola beach is great. as you drive to pensacola beach there is a dairy queen near the bridge it's always packed avoid if possible. also on your way to pensicola beach look for the house built like a ufo with an alien in the window.

I was actually born there and honestly have never been back, but a few people I know say that they have great beaches and they have even gone fishing right off the piers there and had an enjoyable time.
