Gates is worth about $51 billion according to recent estimates, and on top of that, there is $29 billion in his charitable foundation, which he controls, but that has to be spend in accordance with the charitable foundation's mission.

Warren Buffet is second, at about $40 billion, but as we have heard in the news, he is about to give much of that away. He's 75 years old, so he might as well.

Paul Allen (of Microsoft) is third at $22.5 billion, and he has put nothing of consequence as of yet into any kind of a charitable situation. He's done some nice but all things considered modest charitable work in the Seattle area.

The Walton Family (of Walmart fame) is collectively worth in excess of $76 billion ... this wealth is split roughly equally between 5 people. The Walton family is the wealthiest family in the world.
