Want to know what the "Shadyside" area is like in the Pittsburgh. Looking to visit in the fall but I don't know if this is a good area to stay.
If not, what areas would you recommend?

Looking for a place to stay for about a week.

If you are staying for a whole week, I would recommend the Shadyside Inn. They have a variety of units, all with kitchens & such.

Shadyside is a very nice residential neighborhood, on the expensive side of things, but with good bus access to the Oakland (university/medical communities) and Downtown areas. It has shopping, restaurants, it's very walkable.

I might also recommend the South Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh, although it is more nightlife oriented, it is much larger than Shadyside--local theatre, a dozen blocks of shops, restaurants, bars, access to riverfront biking/walking trail, and access to the new South Side Works development and Station Square.

Have a great time! Check out my earlier answer to a question about Pittsburgh restaurants (the last link below).

Shadyside is a more expensive part of the city. There are a few shops on Walnut (like Ann Taylor types of shops). I live in the East End myself (Greenfield), but I rarely ever need to go to Shadyside.

Have you heard of Squirrel Hill? There are more shops there along Forbes and Murray. There are a lot of college kinds there, too.

Sorry, that's all I've got; I'm not a native of Pittsburgh.

I'm pretty sure it's okay. I haven't heard of anything TERRIBLE or something, but do get some other opinions. I do know of streets you shouldn't stay on, tell me what street you're thinking of staying on. Also a good place for food is down in Station Square, Buca de peppo is a REALLY good resturante I recomend to EVERYONE!!! lol, Pittsburgh is awesome, ENJOY YOUR VISIT!!

If you are just staying for a week, then shadyside is a great place to stay... If you are staying for a week to decide if you should move to shadyside, do a ton of research into management companies, and the possibility of being changed over to your own gas meter. Welcome to yuppieville in western PA...
