The fourth dimension is loosely known as "time". But it doesn't stop there. There are at least ten dimensions at last count. The easiest explanations are in magazines like Time, Newsweek (when they run articles on this subject, about once a year), and Science. Check your local library.

I have heard often that chronological time is the 4th dimension. Like the other 3 dimensions of Height, Width, and Length, Time can be measure, inspected, or changed to a degree. As for the additional dimensions, I have heard so many varying theories about it. There are supposed to be anywhere from 10 to 30 seperate dimensions. What exactly they are I could not tell you, but I can say that being 3 or 4 dimensional creatures, we as humans would most likely have difficulty accepting and recognizing the additional dimensions.

1. Conventionally speaking, time was regarded as the fourth dimension. It is unique in the sense that we cannot travel backwards in it.
2. The discrepancies between quantum mechanics and theory of relativity led to the advent of string theory, which hasnt yet been formed in a concrete manner but is still under development. Various calims in the theory put the number of dimentions to anywhere between 11 and 24 with one being that of time and the rest spatial.
3. owing to our perceptual limitations as human beings, we shall never be able to directly sense a 4th spatial dimension even if is exists. I call it a design flaw in us:-)
4. Example - if you were a two dimensional creature in 2-d space, living on a table and a triangle passed perpendicular to you, you would only be able to see a line that grows and then finally disappears. We may also be trapped by our limitation of 3d and the only plausibility of getting a grasp is through indirect inference and mathematization, provided our maths can cope with the pecuilarities of high dimensions that we have never seen. I wish I would be alive a 100 years from now just to see what conclusions the humankind draws:-)

There has to be because we can see things in 3 dimensions. In order to view 3 dimensions one must be in existance in the 4th dimension or else everything would appear to us in 2 dimensions.

Yes.
And there are at least 6 more to go with it giving a total of 10 dimensions.

Yes. The fourth dimension is time. If the latest physics theories are correct there are many more. If you want to learn more, search under "string theory" or the "theory of everything." There is also a good book for regular people called "A Brief History Of Time" by Steven Hawking.

Strictly speaking, ever since general relativity, time is the fourth dimension. However, the above answerer posted about M-theory is indeed an interesting and (aparently) accurate description of our universe that incorporates multiple extra dimensions.

Since 1984, when Laurent Ribardière has started to develop the 4th Dimension (or just 4D) relational database management system (RDBMS), the product line has continued to grow from a desktop application to an integrated client/server solution, a SQL front-end, several productivity plug-ins and interfaces to other database management systems.

yes. aside from the up/down left/right and angles some think that 'Time' is the fourth dimension. Their also may be 6 other dimensions, but we cant prove them as we cant see them

Most people think we are in the third dimension with six directions:up , down, left, right, forward, and backwards, but moving in those directions is the fourth dimension
