Iran Ayatollah Khomeini called for Muslim British writer Solomon Rushdie to die because he wrote the book Satanic Verses.
I guess I would never be heard from again if a fanatical maniac called for my death?
Any thoughts?
I have never read the book!

Actually, it's Salman Rushdie and he is still a very prolific writer. Indeed, he has published numerous novels in the past few years. These include "Fury," "Shalimar the Clown," "The Ground beneath Her Feet," "The Moor's Last Sigh," and "Haroun and the Sea of Stories." As I understand it, though, he is still in hiding, and has some kind of protection with him at all times.

I have never read the book either, but I remember when Rushdie went into hiding. Dan Rather "found" him a few years ago and interviewed him, but said that he will live the rest of his life in hiding.

I don't really know what to think about the whole situation. It went against the Quaran/Koran and angered the entire Islamic community. I suppose it is similar to when "The Passion of Christ" came out in theaters the Jewish community was against Mel Gibson.

Salman (not Solomon) Rushdie is alive and well. In fact he just published a new book - << Shalimar the Clown >>. I also recently saw a fascinating interview of him on PBS by Bill Moyers as part of his "Faith and Reason" series. I put links to these things and other stuff under "Sources" below.

Nothing happened to him. He was on the national news last week talking about Islam and terror.
