Pence or penny. The d stood for the Latin word for penny, something like dinar The currency was LSD (no not the acid stuff) but pounds, shillings and pence. There were 12 pence in a shilling. 20 shillings in a pound a Pound and one shilling was a guinea. parts of a penny were a halfpenny(ha'penny) 2 to penny and a farthing 4 to a penny.Coins in use were a farthing, halfpenny.penny threepenny bit, sixpence(tanner),shilling, 2 shillings(a florin), half a crown(two shillings and sixpence)a ten shilling note, a pound note and a five pound note ,There were I believe notes of higher currencies but ordinary people did not see them.
