what reasons brought about suspicion?

They couldn't find anyone else, the note was in her hand writing.

Not to speak bad of the dead, but from what I remember, the mother seemed a little too cold and composed to me to just have had her child murdered. Also, there was something funky about a note left asking for a certain amount of money that was exactly the amount that the dad had just gotten for a bonus? I've always thought that they were covering up for their son murdering her out of jealously for being a beauty queen - I'm sure she got all the attention.

because the whole thing happened inside the house during the middle of the night and in the morning they found jon benet in the basement. its kinda hard not to accuse them

There was no evidence showing the house was broken into even though it was said to be locked. There was also suspicion that her brother may have done it and the parents were covering it up.

What the two first answers said. So either someone from their party the previous night had hidden inside the house or it was one of the three. The problem is they couldn't pin point evidence that clearly indicated who did it.

I'm sure it was a combination of things, but what bent my mind was that they called their lawyer before they called the cops. Who does that when they find their baby dead? If that happened to me, contacting my lawyer would be the very last thing on my mind.

There was no evidence showing otherwise. But evidently whatever the police had/have it's not enough to either arrest them or to indict them. Maybe it was a ghost.

It happened christmas eve.her parents claimed to not have heard anything at all.There was no sign of a struggle .They looked really guilty.In my opinion their guilty.

because she was found bound and gagged in their basement and there were no signs of forced entry into the house.
