Ah, the age old question of discrimination.

Now I know that you didn't think that you would be able to post such a question on Yahoo Answers and get a sincerely honest answer, did you?

For those of you who don't know or walk around with blinders on, racism still exists. A friend of mine and I were recently talking about racism. The irony of this is the fact that he is white, gay, republican and a reformed racist. (At my insistance, well at least that's what he tells me.) He had a very hard time being my friend because he was raised to believe that all black people were, well you know the n-word and all the negative connotations therein. He admitted it, yes he was raised that way by his father. The same man who abused and hurt him taught him to hate people of color. They moved way out into a rural area just to get away from minorities. Sad, but true.

Well anyway, he told me that racism hasn't gone anywhere. (I kind of already knew that.) He said that it has just become no longer politically correct or socially acceptable to behave in a racist fashion in public. He told me that people still use the "N-word" when no one is around, and that the things that "the man" does to keep the black man down have become more sophisticated. This is true. Why is it that African American infants have the highest infant mortality rate in a modernized country? 9.3 infant deaths per 1,000 births.

The answer to why people discriminate against African Americans and Puerto Ricans is simple. Someone has to be at the bottom, in order for there to be a top. Eventually, money will be the factor that separates us. It will be the rich and the poor. But in the meantime it will be color, because as I have stated time and time again, people of color will never assimilate into the mainstream culture.

It all depends on where you go and It all depends on who you mean "people". Also, Blacks discriminate against other blacks. Puerto Ricans discriminate on other hispanics from latin america. For example, blacks against haitians and puerto ricans against mexicans. Blacks discriminate on whites, puerto ricans discriminate on whites, etc, etc. I know what I am talking about because I have seen it and experienced it. Racism comes from all angles. Discrimination comes from the lack of knowledge and fear. Prejudice IS not knowing any better and fear. First is prejudice and then is discrimination. Discrimination is when you actually take action because of ignorance and fear. You DO wrong because of your prejudice. A lot of people become prejudiced because of stereotypes that they hear and think is true. Some people are prejudiced against certain people and they don't even know it. They think it is "ok" to feel that way or "I'm not really prejudice, I just don't like them".That is why it is important when you hear others generalizing and stereotyping people to step in and tell them that they are wrong because that is how stereotyping begins. Always take a stand because regardless if it is a small comment or a big one, you should always, stand up and make sure you do the right thing because the truth always prevails!!

Unfortunately, all races are discriminated against for one reason or another, it's not just black or puerto rican people.

I think racism is mostly taught from people's families or friends. People are not born racist. Many ignorant beliefs are passed down through the generations...

Because the issue has never been properly addressed. No one wants to discuss it. They would rather pretend that racism is a part of history but deep down everyone knows its as much a problem today as it ever was. I understand why whites don't care. They control this country for the most part and want to continue to enjoy the power and priviledges that racism brings them. However Africans, Hispanics, Native Americans and etc should insist that it be addressed.

Not all people discriminate against the blacks....And usally the People you refer to is us white folks. They have just as equal rights as we do....they recieve welfare just like us...they get good jobs and recieve good educations along with mykids so why is it we always pick on them. I could see if it was still back in the slavery days or in the days of my parents.
