What part of this can people NOT understand?

Dan Brown took some interesting, "hot button" topics and wrote a NOVEL.

It is speculative fiction.

It is not a re-write of the Bible, or a blueprint for a New World Order.

IT IS FICTION.

If you do not enjoy the book, or disagree with it - DO NOT READ IT.

If you didn't like the book - SKIP THE MOVIE.

This is NOT rocket science! GET OVER IT.

Go watch some American Idol re-runs, or Survivor, or something!

If you mean as a serious movie (as in drama), the critics tended to pan the movie so there were not "had." If you mean is the movie based on facts, the answer is no, as the author has stated many times, and anyone with rudimentary skills at research can confirm (that the DiVinci Code is of course fiction). In that, the critics were not fooled into believe the story. The movie going public overseas tended to love the film, while here in the USA the usual flocked to see it initially, probably out of curiosity or the hype or they had read the book (which was so much better than the movie).

I believe that some of the facts can be taken seriously, but some others are just awful and not true!
But I enjoyed reading the book and would always recommend it and I also loved the movie with Tom Hanks, Jean Reno, Ian McKellen, Audrey Tautou!

What I like the most is that Maria Magdalena must have had red hair, when she really had born a child in France and if the child also had red hair, it would explain, why the church looked after the women with red hairs (better known as witches!!)

i think the davinci code should be taken both seriously and lightly.

seriously on the terms that the book does question the catholic church and the bible in some instances.

lightly because this could be another fictional book that critics could be overreacting to.

Well, since it was written by a fiction writer.
Labeled as fiction by the author.
Labeled as fiction by the director of the movie based on it.
Labeled as fictiion by the producer of the movie...
Labeled as fiction by the author's publisher..

I'm going to say it was supposed to be an interesting story for entertainment purposes.

You know that the book/movie is fiction. I can't understand why the Church lambasted it. Maybe they were insulted or whatever. But it is interesting and deserves a debate.
