When I was a young girl (mid 80's) I remember my mother reading me this book of short stories. I don't remember too much about it. I remember a story about a boy who gets a lollipop and keeps licking it, the more he licks it the bigger it gets. It finally gets so big they make it into a sign for a store. There was also another one about a mouse that was bad and was sent away. And another about a cat and some kind of candy tree. I remember the cat was creepy looking the way it was drawn. That's about all I remember. I remember the inside cover having a drawing of some woods with and elf hut and some mermaids. If anyone know's the name or author I would really appreciate it.

It's called 'The Tall Book of Make Believe' by Jane Werner( I think). You won't find it for under $100.00, it's quite the collectable. It's a great book to read to little ones. Your mom probably read to you from a copy that was hers when she was little, it's been out of print for years. Good Luck finding it, you might try ebay.

I am not positive, but it sounds lilke something Shel Silverstein would write.

Good luck finding it, I am going to check back because this sounds like a GREAT children's book to read to my daughter.
