I grew up in England where people would just say "jinx".

I moved back to Canada when I was 12 and here they would say "jinx, buy me a coke".

It's interesting that it existed on two seperate continants-it seems to be quite widespread

Well, I live in eastern Canada, and all we ever said as kids was JINX!!! no mention of a coke or soda or a beer or anything like that.

Nope, but I am sure it has a superstitious connotation to it. By the way your suppose to start counting till they say stop. Then you tell them that is how many coke's they owe.

SNL had a skit about "Jinx buy me a coke". they'd break into the rhyme:

Jinx! Buy me a Coke! Inky-dinky-pinky-winky! Flush it down the kitchen sinky! Alley Ooop! Alley Ooop! Doh hinky. The king of France wet his pants right in the middle of a ballroom dance. Yodleayheehoo! Yodleayheehoo! Nee nee nee ne nee nee neee ne nee nee nee nee. Huh!"
