Right click on the desktop. Choose "Arrange Icons by". Click on "Show Icons"

I think you may have the "Active Desktop" ON
Right-Click anywhere on your BLANK desktop
From the menu that pops-up...you should see an item called "Active Desktop"
Move your mouse over it and then you will see some more menu items on the right.
Select ( must have a check mark ) on the menu item that says "Show Web Content"
You should see your desktop

How did you manage to hide it? It is always there unless you are covering it up with something. Are you sure you mean your desktop and not your task bar?
